“There is a crack, a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in.”
The words from Leonard Cohen’s song, ‘The Anthem’ are well worth remembering. Nothing and no-one is perfect. We live in an imperfect world and we as humans are not perfect. Not being perfect is what makes us human. It’s what makes each and every one of us a unique and special individual. Not a single other person in the world is exactly like you in every way. How amazing is that.
And yet, so much pressure is placed upon on us (and often we place it upon ourselves) to be the perfect partner, parent, son, daughter, have the perfect job, wardrobe, body and so on. The list is endless. Consequently, all too many people feel that they can’t really start living their lives fully until they have achieved many or most of these things. I find that really sad and see so many people wasting precious time – waiting for the right time.
Life cannot be lived fully by striving to be perfect. Life is about seizing the moment, living your life as you are right now. It’s about acknowledging and being the person we were born to be. Think of the people in your life who you really love. Are they perfect in every way? Of course not, yet you love them nevertheless. You are just as loveable with all your imperfections, your individuality and your amazingness (I’m not even sure that’s a word but hey, I’m not perfect either and it seems to fit!)
Now, is the time to start living your life, not tomorrow or when you have shed those extra pounds or found yourself a partner, but right now! Remember, the past is in the past and tomorrow will never arrive. All that matters is the here and now.
Live for the moment and let’s celebrate our uniqueness and our imperfections!
